When the person meant to protect you is the one you need protection from.

From the outside, Marjorie was just “Mum.” Inside the house, she was something far more dangerous.
Wayne didn't know his mother was a sociopath

Each time he thought “this has to be the end,” his mum found a way to summon even more madness.

Just when life seemed to settle, it was never enough to satisfy her hunger for attention; chaos was the only thing that fed her. He thought every childhood felt like a psychological obstacle course. Turns out, it was just his.

This is a true story, a raw, gripping memoir of survival, resilience, and dark family secrets.

In this raw, darkly funny and deeply moving memoir, Wayne tells the true story of growing up in a home where chaos was routine and safety was an illusion, with a manipulative mother, a violent stepfather, and a childhood shaped by fear, silence, and survival.
Set in the backstreets of 1960s and ’70s Manchester and the valleys of South Wales, He Said He’s Sorry blends heartbreak with humour as Wayne navigates broken homes, family betrayal, three failed marriages, and the long road to understanding himself.
You’ll laugh, gasp, maybe even swear out loud, and you'll be in good company
Sometimes the life you were meant to have…is the one you let go.

Everyone remembered how Brian Warrender died. Nobody asked how he lived.

He was thirty-one years old when his life ended.

For decades, that single fact became his entire story.

But before that final chapter, there was another Brian.

An eight-year-old boy torn from his family during wartime Britain, who unexpectedly found love and belonging on a Derbyshire farm.

A young man with his whole life ahead of him.

A first love. A choice.

Then came Marjorie.

What followed was marriage, fatherhood, hope, sacrifice, and the gradual disappearance of the man he might have become.

How does a kind, ordinary man reach the point where another day of living feels harder than dying?

And how different might his story have been if, at one pivotal moment, he'd chosen the life he really wanted?

Inspired by true events, She Never Said Sorry is a deeply moving story of love, resilience, emotional abuse and the devastating consequences of suffering in silence.

It is also the story of countless men whose pain goes unseen, whose kindness is mistaken for weakness, and whose battles are fought behind closed doors.
This isn't the story of how Brian died.

It's the story of everything he lived before he did.

Because every life deserves to be remembered for more than its final chapter.

Author Bio

Wayne Warrender never set out to become an author.

For most of his life, the extraordinary story of his childhood remained exactly where he thought it belonged, in the past.

That changed when, later in life, he finally began writing He Said He’s Sorry, an intensely personal account of growing up in a family shaped by violence, secrets and a mother whose version of the truth was rarely the whole truth.

What began simply as a need to put his memories on paper went on to reach readers around the world, becoming an Amazon number-one bestseller and accumulating over two million Kindle Unlimited page reads within a year.

But one part of the story remained largely untold.

His father's.

She Never Said Sorry grew from Wayne's determination to understand the man behind the few memories, photographs and fragments left behind. Drawing upon family history, documented events and the truths he uncovered many years later, he has reconstructed the story that existed before his own began.

Wayne lives in South Wales and came to writing later in life. He believes some stories wait until we are old enough to understand why they need to be told.

She Never Said Sorry is his second book.

Reviews

WOW, WOW, WOW, ....what a Man, what a story, I could not put this book down, I laughed, I cried and in many parts I was breathless....this book is Amazing and I implore everyone who loves a factual book to buy it.....I need to shake this young man's hand and hopefully can have him to autograph my copy

Raw, honest, and darkly funny. Wayne’s story grabs you from the first page and doesn’t let go. One minute you’re wincing, the next you’re laughing. A tough life told with heart and humour, no self-pity, no fluff. Just a damn good read.

A must read! Couldn’t put this book down once I started reading it. Captivated by the author from the first page. What an incredible and deeply moving story! Such a raw and honest true story that has both dark and heartwarming moments what a read!!
