HE SAID HE'S SORRY
RAISED BY A SOCIOPATH
When the person meant to protect you is the one you need protection from.
From the outside, Marjorie was just “Mum.” Inside the house, she was something far more dangerous.
Wayne didn't know his mother was a sociopath
Each time he thought “this has to be the end,” his mum found a way to summon even more madness.
Just when life seemed to settle, it was never enough to satisfy her hunger for attention; chaos was the only thing that fed her. He thought every childhood felt like a psychological obstacle course. Turns out, it was just his.
This is a true story, a raw, gripping memoir of survival, resilience, and dark family secrets.
In this raw, darkly funny and deeply moving memoir, Wayne tells the true story of growing up in a home where chaos was routine and safety was an illusion, with a manipulative mother, a violent stepfather, and a childhood shaped by fear, silence, and survival.
Set in the backstreets of 1960s and ’70s Manchester and the valleys of South Wales, He Said He’s Sorry blends heartbreak with humour as Wayne navigates broken homes, family betrayal, three failed marriages, and the long road to understanding himself.
You’ll laugh, gasp, maybe even swear out loud, and you'll be in good company

Author Bio

Wayne Warrender grew up in the backstreets of Manchester, armed with little more than a sense of humour, a love for his Nana, and a cricket bat painted on the wall of his backyard. His memoir, He Said He's Sorry, is a raw journey through chaos, survival, and the occasional laugh at life's foolishness.
Wayne has survived dodgy stepdads, life-threatening moments, and even his music taste (Just ask Prince). When he's not writing, he runs a cafe, chats with locals, and quietly wonders if his book will shock you, make you laugh, or both, ideally in that order.
One part raw truth, one part Mancunian mischief, this is an author who didn't just live to tell the tale; he turned it into a page-turner.

Raw, honest, and darkly funny. Wayne’s story grabs you from the first page and doesn’t let go. One minute you’re wincing, the next you’re laughing. A tough life told with heart and humour, no self-pity, no fluff. Just a damn good read.
A must read! Couldn’t put this book down once I started reading it. Captivated by the author from the first page. What an incredible and deeply moving story! Such a raw and honest true story that has both dark and heartwarming moments what a read!!

Using a crowbar, Brian failed to break in through the back door

The bed center where Marjorie's head lay. The blood-soaked side of the bed (and the pooled blood on the floor) where Nana's arm lay.
